Knife River Corporation Employees Mark 11th Year of Safety Improvements

BISMARCK, N.D. -- Knife River Corporation employees marked the 11th-consecutive year with reductions in injury and illness rates, reaching overall recordable incidence rate and lost-time accident rates far below the national average. In the past 11 years, Knife River has reduced its injury and illness rates by more than 75 percent.

“Congratulations to all of our employees for working safely and to management teams for their commitment and leadership in taking us a step closer to safety excellence,” said Bill Schneider, Knife River president and CEO.

Last year Knife River’s overall recordable-incident rate was 2.66, down 3 percent from 2008 and 46 percent lower than the national industry average. The lost-time-accident rate was 0.48, which is 21 percent lower than the previous year and 72 percent below industry average.

“Employees have come together to remake our safety culture and have witnessed immediate changes. Our safety commitment continues to grow and through proactive safety management we will continue to reduce our incidence rates,” said Knife River Corporation Safety Director Zach Knoop.
