Concrete Pumping

Concrete Pumping

Knife River is proud to offer concrete pumping as one of its specialty services. Concrete pumping offers many benefits to customers.

  • Faster: Modern concrete pumps are capable of placing well over 150 cubic yards per hours. Placement usually is accomplished by one man at the end of the hose.
  • Cheaper: Reduced pouring time cuts costs, crew size and job overhead, allowing larger pours for better production.
  • Easier: A concrete pump can set up in minutes in confined locations, where it will be out of the way of other crafts. It takes little or no preparation time and requires minimal supervision during the pour.
  • Safer: A concrete pump eliminates overhead buckets and the danger of the concrete bucket hitting the pour crew or knocking crew members off the wall.
  • Greater concrete quality: Pumping improves mixing and density of concrete and reduces the chances of separation, thereby improving consistency.
  • Eliminates expensive re-handling: Concrete pumping eliminates the need to re-handle concrete from bucket to hopper to buggy. Re-handling increases the chances of separation, dry rock pockets and pour slump control, as well as being slow and expensive.
  • Eliminates tremies: The pump hose can be lowered into a wall or column, reducing the chance of separation and honeycombing. One man easily can place all the concrete.
  • Easier on the forms: The gradual, constant placement by pump eliminates overloading the forms, which can occur when two tons of concrete is "dropped" from a bucket.
  • Frees other equipment: A pump can place concrete while cranes continue to hoist material and set forms to keep subs supplied. This minimizes construction time, reducing construction finance charges and job overhead.
